The bird attacks people who walk past its tree (which is located near the entrance of a busy office building), protecting its young from human “predators.” Meanwhile, in West Des Moines, actor Rob Lowe took a shot in the Pro-Am event of the Principal Charity Golf Classic that knocked a goldfinch out of the sky, killing it. “Who comes here and kills the state bird? Only me,” Lowe lamented.
