Davis Park to get improvements

If you want to meet some hard-working neighbors, and see an example of city-citizen cooperation, look no further than Evelyn K. Davis Park at 16th & Forest Ave. in Des Moines. At one time one of the city’s roughest neighborhoods, the relocation of the Forest Ave. Library into its current location and the redevelopment of the adjacent park - along with plenty of work by area neighbors, has resulted in a turn-around.

Now, the park is slated for another round of improvements thanks to the diligent work of the King-Irving Neighborhood Association, which has spent the past several months fund-raising for additional play and sporting equipment. The Register reports the new projects will begin in mid-July, and take about 10 weeks to complete. Neighbors say the park has become a sort of “town square” for the neighborhood, and they’d like even more families to make use of it.
