Des Moines’ NBA team: Iowa Energy

It may have been a complete and utter snowjob, but at least we won’t have to go and see the “Scarecrows” play basketball. Des Moines’ NBA development league ownership announced on Friday that the team would be called the IOWA ENERGY.
We lamented along with the rest of you when we read Marc Hansen’s original column where he laid out five really poor choices and then suggested Energy, which we said was a very good choice. And we did celebrate when we learned that the five crappy names had been abandoned.
It’s possible, as some are saying, that the team owners never intended to call their team the Thoroughbreds, or the Maize, and that the release of those names as “possibilities” was just a ruse to rally support around their true choice. (If that’s the case, they either paid Hansen to make the case for it, or they suckered him too.) It really doesn’t matter to me… at least I don’t have to go around bragging about my season “Corncob” tickets.
So now we’re here to celebrate and say that we are pleased and proud to support the Iowa Energy. Now let’s get to dribbling… er, traveling… er, whatever it is basketball players do so well.
