City sponsors first annual Curb-It Regatta: boats made from recyclables!

Okay, admit it: when you first got your green recycling bin, you put your dog in it and tried to float it, right? Oh woops, maybe that was just me…? Well, no matter, it seems the City of Des Moines has discovered that these things float, too, so now they’ve devised a cool idea to encourage folks to have a little fun and learn about recycling.
It’s the first annual Curb-It Regatta, where teams will make boats out of 100% recycled items and sail them on Gray’s Lake. Now keep in mind, these are not miniature boats - you can have as many as 10 team members, and three of them must ride on the boat!
The registration deadline is July 10 (sign up online at the city’s website) and the event takes place August 3. Registration fees are $50 per corporate team, $25 per non-profit or club team. Proceeds go to fund environmental projects at Gray’s Lake and spectators are admitted free.
