Enjoy the Pleasant Hill Labor Day Festival
I’m sure most communities in the region are planning some sort of Labor Day activities… here’s one on which I happened to receive a lot of information:
The Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce will host the city’s fifth annual Labor Day Festival on Saturday, September 1, with most activities taking place in the parking lots of the [...]
Who has good French Dip sandwich? And - InPlay revisited
My fellow community blogger Chuck in Newton, Massachusetts, notes today that he has discovered a great new turkey club sandwich at an area restaurant. Seems he’s been on a quest for quite some time to find the best turkey club, and I felt compelled to comment on his blog post because my personal quest over [...]
Neighbors, police reunite Mom with child who wandered off
My heart goes out to this mother. This is indeed a very scary situation, even when it doesn’t materialize and you’re simply left pondering what “could have been.”
One night several years ago, when my daughter was about three, I was up late working on the computer in the living room. My daughter had been in [...]
‘Queen of Mean’ has the last word
I failed to note last week that hotel baroness and convicted tax evader Leona Helmsley had died… but at the time, I didn’t really have any good links or anything to share that was worthwhile. Since that time, though, I found a great obituary and now today, a story about how her will specifies $12 million going to [...]

What a perfect weekend for… work??
What a beautiful weekend! I hope you got to spend some time outdoors - two perfect days!
We spent the weekend reclaiming our deck. It’s a good-sized platform - about 10 feet x 20 - but we don’t use it very often. The deck itself gets direct sun throughout most of the summer and it’s just [...]
Money, finance, credit scores and other topics I failed in high school
This article at MSN on Americans’ perceptions of their credit card debt was particularly timely for me today, given our recent experiences signing papers for a line of revolving credit. Here are a few things we learned, courtesy of the finance professional writing our loan:
Credit scores range from 350-850. The national average is about 750.
Every time [...]
Valley West Mall Antique Show is opportunity for antique dealers
I’m a nut for craft and antique shopping, and Fall is always a very busy season for that kind of fun. I’ll do a round-up of events one of these days soon, but for now I wanted to share that the Valley West Mall Antique Show, to be held October 11-14, has openings for quality antique [...]
