Posted on August 16, 2007 in Art & Artists, Downtown, Entertainment by DM
The Des Moines Arts Festival and Des Moines Art Center’s Nurturing a Student’s Vision: Celebrating Artists K-12 Art Exhibition, sponsored by Hubbell Homes, is now on display at Downtown Des Moines’ Central Library (1000 Grand Ave.) through Sept. 27, 2007.
The NSV display, showcased on-site at the 2007 Des Moines Arts Festival, gave 324 students from 88 schools in Central Iowa the opportunity to display their artwork, highlighting the creativity of students in kindergarten through high school. Now these same pieces of artwork are on display for all guests to enjoy at Central Library.
Artwork can be viewed during regular library hours on Monday thru Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
In addition, Hubbell Homes will host a reception at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2007, at Central Library to honor those students and teachers who participated in the NSV exhibit. At the reception, two students will be presented Des Moines Art Center scholarships and a family membership to the Des Moines Art Center, and a drawing will be held in which five schools will win a $100 award for art supplies. Students can also retrieve their artwork following the reception.

thanks for the memories. Nurturing a Child’s Vision was my PR pet project back in the agency days. aaah….not missin it. =-)
Jodi, my daughter had a picture displayed in this exhibit a couple years ago… It’s kind of sad, she was so proud of herself then but now she just thinks the picture she drew is really ugly. I wish she wasn’t so hard on herself. I always like walking through this exhibit at the Arts Festival! ~ J.
Oh - it is definitely a wonderful exhibit….and being hard on herself…that’s just part of the preteen/teen/8th grade thing. I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from and struggle every day to remember where THEY are coming from. I always swore I wouldn’t be a Mom who didn’t understand…but I guess that is our lot in life, right? That we grow up and become the Mom who doesn’t understand. I’ll pray that you & I survive the teen years, find the right words, the patience, etc. that it will require….and at the end our girls regain their self-confidence.
RE: “the mom who doesn’t understand” - that’s funny/sweet/sad… it’s maybe not til we’re actually mothers that we understand that mom DID understand after all - we just thought she didn’t, and now our daughters think we don’t either! LOL Someday it will all make sense… right…??
