What a perfect weekend for… work??

What a beautiful weekend! I hope you got to spend some time outdoors - two perfect days!

We spent the weekend reclaiming our deck. It’s a good-sized platform - about 10 feet x 20 - but we don’t use it very often. The deck itself gets direct sun throughout most of the summer and it’s just been too hot to sit out there. Now, however, the sun’s low enough in the sky even at mid-day that most of the deck is in the shade of the roof gable. Seemed like a good time to tidy things up.

My husband cleaned the deck surface with the pressure washer, then we brought over some furniture from the patio (also freshly pressure-washed), purchased a couple additional chairs, and cleaned/re-filled the hot tub. We took down some of the oldest little signs and decorations we had originally put up (”We don’t soak in your toilet - please don’t pee in our spa” and the faded parrot flag), and have plans to buy a few new tropical decorations eventually. We also considered placing a little bar along one side, but decided to just improvise a “drink station” if the need should ever arise rather than spending any more money.

All of this took most of Saturday… we spent an hour or so in the hot tub Saturday night, lounged around some more on Sunday (I did some blogging out on the newly-relocated table), then another hour in the spa Sunday evening.

So, while we did a little work, we actually had a very relaxing weekend.

There is SO much more work to be done, however. I’ve got two silver maple trees and a trumpet vine that send roots and runners all over the yard, with “baby trees” and mini-vines springing up all over the place… you cannot believe what kind of weed-whacking this entails, and I’ve let it go for most of the summer. The deck looks great, but the front of of the house and the patio are literally a jungle that has to be cut back, and there’s always something that needs to be cleaned up because of the two walnut trees. Hopefully we are past the high-humidity portion of the summer so I can get to this work!

What did you do this weekend?
