Who has good French Dip sandwich? And - InPlay revisited

My fellow community blogger Chuck in Newton, Massachusetts, notes today that he has discovered a great new turkey club sandwich at an area restaurant. Seems he’s been on a quest for quite some time to find the best turkey club, and I felt compelled to comment on his blog post because my personal quest over the past 20-some years has been to find the best French Dip sandwich in this area. So far - because of the combination of smoked meat, smoke-flavored au jus and chips-on-the-side, the best French Dip I’ve had is at Hickory Park in Ames. Drake Diner usually also has a good one, and surprisingly, Perkins makes a decent one as well.
If you have any other ideas on who has the best French Dip, post your suggestions here and I’ll give ‘em a try!
In related news, I wanted to share that we have been back to InPlay Des Moines twice since the night we walked out without being served, and everything was excellent both times. If you followed that post, you noted that Michael Stessman offered up a steak dinner as a make-good for our poor experience. I really appreciated that, but told him it wasn’t necessary. We’ve had quick, attentive service and excellent food on our last two visits - I wanted to make sure you knew that!

I was going to say, I love Perkins French Dips. I always get it with cheese, no onions, and hashbrowns on the side. Yummy! Going to have to try the Drake Diner one. I don’t get to Ames much, but if I do, I’ll have to try that other one.
Glad that you got good service at In Play. I haven’t been there either. I need to get out more don’t I?

ooo hey something happened to the rest of my comment - don’t know how to use my own blog! LOL
What I said in the part that got clipped was, “LOL not all - it’s me who needs to fix supper now and then instead of eating in restaurants all the time… Lord knows I’ve had plenty of opportunity to try LOTS of french dip!”

I’ve enjoyed French Dip sandwiches at Arby’s and at a sandwich shop at Valley West Mall (can’t think of the name at this time–duh!). I’ve also enjoyed one at Champs at Jordan Creek, at the Tavern restaurants and at Mustards in Windsor Heights. I hope to try one of the sandwiches at a Legends in order to get frequent flier miles. (I have an ulterior motive–get out of town–lol.)
