Downtown adds planters in expansion of beautification program

Some of my favorite planters are the ones out in front of Walgreens down on Walnut Street, in the middle of the Transit Mall. I like them because the combination of quick-growing coleus and sweet potato vines proves you don’t have to plant flowers to get a riot of color.

Working downtown, I also enjoy watching the seasonal plantings change. And - did you know that if you happen to catch workers changing out the plantings, you can rescue the out-of-season plants for yourself? I got a boxful of chrysanthemums this way a couple years ago, and they’ve come back to add color in my garden.
