Central Academy is challenging all of us

We have been struggling a bit to get into a new homework habit so my daughter can get her Central Academy work done in a timely manner, but overall I think she is doing well. (Monday night this week was horrendous, with 3-1/2 hours of volleyball followed by 2-1/2 hours of intense homework and a malfunctioning ink jet printer.)
I’m especially happy, though, with the government class she’s taking, because I think it’s really challenging her in several ways. Their project this week was to take on the persona of one of the members of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, study up on that person’s contribution to the development of the U.S. Constitution, and then not only give a talk to the class in the persona of their chosen character, but also engage in a mock Convention as their character. This means that she had to learn and understand the contributions of a guy named Edmund Randolph, and be able to talk about his ideas as if she were him. I was impressed with how quickly and well she learned the material and grasped the primary concept of interest to her character (separation of powers). I would love to be a fly on the wall in the classroom when she gets up tomorrow to present The Virginia Plan.
