Report on school board meeting

Posted on September 20, 2007 in Schools & Education by DM

M.R. Field has a fairly detailed report on the first school board meeting attended by new members Patty Link and Jonathan Narcisse. It’s interesting that Narcisse had his first “argumentative moment” already - and even more interesting that the board used procedural rules to shut him up.  I wonder if that’s how they handle all dissent? It does seem odd that he had to get his copy of the document they were reviewing off the Internet - don’t they send these things to board members in advance? Or did they not consider him a board member because he hadn’t been sworn in yet? It just seems like everyone should have had time to review what they were being asked to approve. My personal strategy would’ve been to vote to approve, lay low for a couple meetings to learn the procedures, and then start questioning things. God love ‘im, I guess that’s why he’s on that board instead of me.

More about Narcisse’s first week on the board:
9/18 - he goes on Mickelson’s program to criticize the board
9/19 - David Yepsen’s take on Narcisse’s first meeting
