Monday musings: a praying mantis, a motorcycle accident, and more
I have to mention a really interesting experience we had the other night. My husband and I came out of El Rodeo on E. Euclid and were approaching our car, when I realized there was a Praying Mantis perched on the roof of the car, over the driver’s door. We approached slowly because frankly, I’ve [...]
“These kids today!” Has something like this happened to you?
Dear Lord, I do NOT want to be one of those people who goes around wondering “What is it with these kids today?” But I can’t help myself.
I had an experience on Wednesday that made me indescribably angry. Turns out it is not an isolated incident, as this story from Thursday’s Register shows.

This didn’t happen in Iowa, but it’s worth sharing: a man convicted of secretly video taping female residents of an apartment complex in California, recently released from jail, is suing the San Rafael Police Department to get back his large collection of porn videos and magazines. The cops don’t want to return the material, because it’s [...]

“Hillraiser” Norman Hsu again became a fugitive from justice today when he failed to show at some sort of bail reduction hearing in San Mateo (CA) District Court. There’s a new warrant out for Hsu’s arrest, so when he’s re-arrested he’ll be serving without bail.
Oops, make that IF he’s re-arrested… his [...]

Downtown adds planters in expansion of beautification program
Additional planters are being added along Third Street and Sixth Avenue in downtown Des Moines in an effort to expand the floral plantings that add color and greenery to the concrete jungle.
Some of my favorite planters are the ones out in front of Walgreens down on Walnut Street, in the middle of the Transit Mall. [...]
Science Center to feature ‘Grossology’
Heads up, parent-bloggers - the Science Center of Iowa will host Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body beginning September 29. Your kids (and, admit it, maybe even you) are going to want to see this - it’s the science behind pee, boogers, belching, farting and much more.
Good news, too - you’ll have plenty [...]
