Des Moines City Council primary election is Tuesday, Oct. 9

Tomorrow is primary election day for voters in Des Moines, who must select the candidates for an at-large city council seat. Contending are incumbent Chris Coleman, marketing consultant Josh Daines, and meatcutter Seth Galinsky. The Register has posted this “primer,” a snapshot-look at each candidate including answers to four questions (selected, one assumes, by the Register?).

I’m voting for Coleman. His answers to the questions clearly reflect the experience he’s gained while on the Council. His specific answers to question 3 are interesting. I agree with every one of his answers except that #4 is very vague and feels a little dodgey.  Daines’s answers to the questions by contrast are so non-specific as to appear naive (did he even understand question #2? why the focus on alternative energy in a question about tax increases vs. city service decreases?) while Galinsky’s agenda is clearly all about more/bigger government. Since this is a primary I’ll have to vote for two, so Daines will be my choice to run against Coleman.
