I-235 Reconstruction Completion Party October 18!

interstate 235 graphic The seven-year reconstruction effort along I-235 is almost finished, and the Iowa Department of Transportation is hosting a community-wide ribbon-cutting and celebration. Here are the particulars if you’d like to attend:

I-235 Reconstrution Completion Celebration
October 18, 2007
3-4 p.m. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony (5th Ave. Bridge)
4-7 p.m. Reception and exhibits (HyVee Hall in the Iowa Events Center)
Free parking is available at the Wells Fargo Arena parking lot, if secured prior to 4 p.m. There is a fee for vehicles entering the lot after 4 p.m. The city of Des Moines will provide free parking after 4 p.m. at the Park and Ride facility, 7th and Center Streets, for people attending the event.

Transportation from the bridge to Hy-Vee Hall will be provided courtesy of DART.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, there will be a reception with refreshments, exhibits and lots of things to see and do:

Enjoy the free refreshments and snacks.
Sit in the seat of a snowplow or Highway Helper vehicle.
See the Sweet Ride that will be given away to some lucky Iowan age 14-24.
Check out the DART bus and RideShare van.
Pick up your souvenir I-235 metal shield.
Learn about roadside plantings and traffic management technologies.
Meet Iowa’s political leaders.
Visit with the project’s personnel and contractors.

Invited special guests and speakers: The Honorable Iowa Governor Chet Culver, members of Iowa’s Congressional delegation, U.S. Federal Highway Administration Administrator J. Richard Capka, Iowa Department of Transportation Director Nancy Richardson, and local governmental officials.
