In my earliest journalism courses in high school and college, we learned a humorous little tidbit that was designed to teach us how to spot what was newsworthy. “Dog bites man, that’s not news,” reportedly said some famous long-ago newspaperman (probably HL Mencken or someone like that), “…but man bites dog, now THAT’S news!”
Man shoots dog, probably not news… dog shoots man, now THAT’S news!

Speaking of the “dog bites man” definition of news. I’ve sometimes wondered if said pooch belonged to a celebrity, then perhaps the dog’s behavior might be considered gossip. After all, Enquiring minds want to know about such things, more or less.
Hah. Yea it has been a slow news week apparently - at least until the chemical plant fire. That should occupy them for awhile
Check out IowaNewz.com (the latest community from s5). You get to be the editor…finally. Then “Dog Bites Man” will not show it’s ridiculous face on the front page anymore, that is unless it is voted up there.
Joel - “more or less” is right! LOL Doesn’t Paris Hilton have a chihuahua? I’ve never seen him written up in the Enquirer… although I did see where that alien dude showed up to put his arm around Bill Clinton again…
