Coleman wins Des Moines City Council primary

Here are the results of Tuesday’s City Council primary election:
Chris Coleman (incumbent): 67.4 %
Josh Daines: 23.1%
Seth Galinsky: 8.5%
Write-In: 1%
The Polk County election office website showed that 3,566 people voted.
Update:
While Chris Coleman easily won two thirds of the votes cast in yesterday’s city council primary election, I have to wonder if the primary wasn’t a waste [...]

Has blogging peaked?

Earlier this year, there were rumblings that “blogging had peaked” as an activity because a blog-measuring service called Technorati had claimed that the number of daily posts to blogs worldwide seemed to be declining. I wrote at that time, and I still believe, that the number of posts per day has very little to do with [...]

Universities deny Regents’ request to see contract for student credit card agreement

Can you imagine any corporation saying to its board of directors, “Yes we’ve entered into a private agreement with a company that uses our customers’ private identifying data and stands to be profitable for our business, but no you may not see a copy of the contract we have with that company” ??? That’s just [...]

Fighting spam on a blog

Well that’s certainly true as far as the individual posts, but when it comes to comments it’s kind of an ongoing battle. Yes, there are spammers out there who target the comment [...]

That means my neighborhood’s unfriendly to walkers because a variety of amenities are, according to the algorithm, too far away.
On one hand, [...]

What a great bunch of folks! I wish I had been able to [...]

Decision 2008: Winnowing the field of candidates - or, who I WON’T be voting for

The start of 4th Quarter 2007 marks the beginning of the final countdown to the Iowa Caucuses. Although I have been trying to cultivate a sort of ‘bemused detachment’ from presidential politics for the past several months, it’s time to begin thinking about who I might support. The only thing I know for certain right now [...]
