Dad’s senior living journey - seeking information

With my dad still in the hospital, and understanding that this has been another “episode” in his ongoing battle with liver disease (which will only progress), my brother and I have been talking about suggesting to Dad that he move to an assisted living facility. This is obviously a major life change, and we are [...]

White Christmas came early

We got off early from work today because of the bad weather, but when I got home it was looking absolutely beautiful. I love this kind of snow, and for some reason it really cheered me up today! This is the view in my backyard.

My brain is turning to mush… the t.v. must be on!

I’ve spent a fair amount of time this week in front of the television. I don’t do that often, but I’ve been craving mindless down-time for the past week or so and have been watching more. Here are a few notes from this week’s watching:

I seem to discover a lot of programs in re-runs that are [...]

A little weekend report

Wow, it has been a tough week. Short version: my dad is in the hospital and I’m sure he will be much better very soon, but I am exhausted! A few observations/questions:

Why does it ALWAYS take six (yes, SIX) hours for an emergency room visit? Six hours from moment of entry to being admitted/settled into [...]

Five Questions With… Des Moines Girl

Five Questions With… is a series on DMweblife highlighting Des Moines area bloggers and their blogs! This edition features “Des Moines Girl,” a.k.a. “Cookie” - a mom with a clowning soul!

My other public appearance

Friday night’s karaoke adventure was actually my second live performance last week: I spent some time on November 8 as a guest speaker at Tim Johnson’s business leadership class, talking about social media for business and personal use. I also got to talk a bit about my role in the Age of Conversation collaborative blog-to-book project.
What a [...]

I sang (if you can call it that) in front of actual people!

I must have traveled down a thousand roads.
Been so many places, seen so many faces,
always on my way to somethin’ new.
Ohh, but it doesn’t matter,
’cause no matter where I go,
every road leads back,
every road just seems to lead me back to you.
One of the neat things we did while out with friends for our anniversary [...]

Register’s new website is opportunity for interaction

The Des Moines Register has been planning a website overhaul for quite some time, and the whole thing has been in beta testing for the past several weeks. Last week it seems the test-site got accidentally “leaked” to the live world, then for a week the old site was back. Now the new is back again, [...]

Link Round-Up November 13

Seems like it’s been a little while since I posted a link round-up, so here are a few items I appreciated reading this past week:
Here’s wishing both Heather and Claire a ‘get well soon’!
Seems John Mellencamp needs to curb his concert politicizing… interesting to note the reactions (in the comments) of the Edwards supporters.
West Des [...]
