Quick update on… me!

It’s Sunday night, and I’m finally able to take a breath. When I said a couple weeks ago that it had been a difficult week, I really didn’t know how much more was in store. Dad came home from the hospital, did not seem to me to be doing all that well, and had a major incident mid-week that prompted me to call my brother to come down from Wisconsin to check out the situation, maybe gather a little assisted living info… then we had another major incident on Friday which put Dad right back in the hospital. I did manage to collect some information from a wonderful agency called Aging Resources of Central Iowa, whose case workers will help me get Dad’s next living arrangement figured out.
In addition to all of this, it has been a very busy time at work - I have plenty of personal time available to use for all this family health stuff, but my workload (including a couple big deadlines) makes it impossible for me to take large chunks of time until after next Friday. It was frankly something of a godsend to have my brother here to be keeping an eye on Dad.
Finally, there’s been a cool development on the motorcycle front: I’m now the official New Member Ambassador of our Des Moines HOG Chapter. Yep, I’ve joined the officer’s ranks of the Harley Owner’s Group, which is based at Big Barn HD. My job for 2008 will be to sign in new members at each meeting, then introduce them to the rest of the group. I think it sounds like fun, and I’m thrilled to be on board!

Sorry to hear about your dad. It can be extremely frustrating. I watched my parents go through a lot of crud with my grandparents - stuff you wouldn’t believe! (another story for another day)
Very cool about the Harley club! I don’t ride (I have an uncle who does) but I love to look at Harleys!

Hey thanks to both of you for the well-wishes. It looks like we are moving to skilled-care for a couple weeks before he goes home; hopefully we’ll have an assisted living arrangement at least in process by then. And, after the end of this week I have some vacation time remaining that I’ll be taking. So I’m actually feeling a lot better about how it’s all working out. Thank God my brother has been here - J.
I’ll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts… As part of that, I sent the HOG Chapter link to my father. He is recently retired and already bought his Harley… (wrecked it once and traded up 2x…) Now he just needs good people and a community to ride with…
