Link Round-Up, January 22

Like Michael, I plan to start hoarding incandescent lightbulbs. Who the hell is running this show, anyway?? Oh wait, that’s right, the holier-than-thou environmentalists.
Larry’s post about standing in line got me thinking about places where I regularly encounter long lines… but they move quickly. Two that came to mind immediatley are both downtown lunch places: Palmer’s Deli and Burger King, both in the Kaleidoscope at the Hub at 5th & Walnut. Larry says, “I’m sure many meaningful relationships were ignited by a long wait somewhere…” but I think usually it’s just the opposite: standing in line is the perfect opportunity for a meaningless relationship - the kind that starts and ends with a brief quip about the weather, the length of the wait, or something in the other person’s shopping basket. My mother used to start “check-out line conversations” all the time when I was younger and it drove me absolutely batty - how embarrassing! Now I find myself doing exactly the same thing. Guess it’s a way to stay sociable, show a little good humor, maybe pay someone a compliment if they look like they could use a boost.
I was delighted to find this post by Art Dinkin, outlining the differences between a couple of retirement savings programs. Really, truly educational stuff here - thanks Art!
Now that Andy’s done with college, he’s traveling around Europe - and as of now he’s traveling alone. He’s got an interesting perspective (as usual!) on how going solo literally changes the way you travel.
