HeArt Fest showcases quality, affordable fine art

If you’re longing for an opportunity to browse through high-quality, affordable hand-crafted artwork, you won’t want to miss HeArt Fest coming up February 9 and 10 at Valley West Mall. Now in its third year as HeArt Fest, this event used to be the Art for Heart fund-raiser held by the Iowa Heart Association. These days the show serves as the companion show to ArtFest Midwest: The Other Art Show held in June, and is produced by Stookey Shows.
“Art lovers will enjoy several ArtFest Midwest artists at HeArt Fest. It will be a juried, affordable show, offering unique handmade gifts for Valentine’s Day gift-giving,” said show organizer Sue Stookey. Art categories represented at the show include glass, jewelry, pottery, oil/pastel/watercolor painting, photography, metal, paper, wood and baskets.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
A new-for-2008 “KidzDuArt” area will be held at the mall’s Center Court, both days from Noon-5 p.m. Representatives from “History Through the Arts Theater” will help youngsters create their own old-fashioned Valentines. The cost for this activity is $1.50 per person, or a donation. All proceeds will go toward funding scholarships for Iowa K-12 students who want to attend “History Through the Arts Theater” at the State Historical Museum of Iowa. The program teaches international, national and Iowa history through theater and interactive activities.
Stookey said a few booth spaces remain. Artists interested in applying to be in the show can complete the online Exhibitor sign-up form.
