Beautiful valentine flowers are extra-special
Did I mention I never get flowers? In his previous marriage, my husband and his then-wife owned a flower shop. That pretty much ruined flower-buying in his subsequent relationships, because once he learned the mark-up on them he refused to buy them. (And yes, I married him in spite of this anthrophobia.) So, on those [...]

A little late with the Christmas cheer…
Because the past month is such a blur, I know I missed participating in a “Christmas meme” that I first noticed over at Des Moines Girl’s blog, Des Moines 360. Hoping you’ll indulge me the opportunity, though late, to play along!

Christmas was perfect!
I am finally breathing a sigh of relief. My dad’s immediate health issues have been resolved and he is doing much better at home while we look for an assisted living arrangement that meets his long-term needs.

White Christmas came early
We got off early from work today because of the bad weather, but when I got home it was looking absolutely beautiful. I love this kind of snow, and for some reason it really cheered me up today! This is the view in my backyard.

Halloween costume wasn’t quite what I intended
My husband and I went to a Halloween party this weekend; he went as Uncle Sam’s rude cousin and I went as a black cat. I only did that because I couldn’t find my devil or genie costumes from prior years, and buying cat ears and a pin-on tail from the Theatrical Shop was a [...]
‘The Bear’ makes Halloween special
Larry’s post about past Halloweens reminded me of the year my dad took us trick-or-treating in his bear costume. Lifelong residents of Des Moines might remember a television show on WHO called “Beat the Bear” from the early 1970’s. I think it was resurrected in the 90’s for a brief time. On this show, college [...]
Enjoy the Pleasant Hill Labor Day Festival
I’m sure most communities in the region are planning some sort of Labor Day activities… here’s one on which I happened to receive a lot of information:
The Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce will host the city’s fifth annual Labor Day Festival on Saturday, September 1, with most activities taking place in the parking lots of the [...]
